RIP, Peter.
I just heard today too and must say I was shocked. We lost a very talented man.
He's been a big part of the soundtrack of my life. The humor mixed with the heavy, heavy music made me smile, even when others didn't understand. My wife looks at me cross-eyed when I tell her how funny a song like "Everyone Dies" is. It makes me sad that there will never be another Type O Negative album or tour. It makes me even sadder that Peter Steele is no longer among us.
RIP Pete.
As a side note, because of this blog post--specifically the title--I'm singing "Hey Peter" as I'm surfing the net.
I'm beyond distraught. It was like a death in the family, to use his words. You don't realize how impactive someone or their work is on you until the seemingly endless supply runs out.
Because of him, Crooked Fang was conceived. Because of him, I survived many violent nights. Because of him, I studied the bass guitar. I can't play it, but I can hear it in every song put to my ears.
Life is short, and can be cut shorter. It makes me think long and hard about it. Where do we go? Nobody knows. But we do go, and that is something very hard to accept.
I'm sorry to say I'd never heard his music, and after just listening to 'Christian Woman', I'm really sorry I hadn't. What a wonderful voice he had!
